ŞIRNEX - Tens of thousands took to the streets in the town of Cizre, Turkey yesterday for the funeral of four, including two children, killed by the state.

Violent clashes broke out in the town of Cizre, in Northern Kurdistan (in Turkey) on Thursday. Police stopped medical access and prevented ambulances from reaching neighborhoods, resulting in four deaths in police attacks.

Two children, 10-year-old Emin Yanaş and seven-year-old Baran Çağlı, were slain in the attack. Police also killed 27-year-old Eyüp Ergen, a nurse, and 39-year-old Mesut Sanrı, an employee of the municipal electricity company.

Shutters were closed across the city as tens of thousands marched from the state hospital to the cemetery. Hundreds of workers attended with a massive banner denouncing the targeting of healthcare providers. Electrical company workers carried Mesut Sanrı's photograph at the march.

The massive march carried the coffins of the dead to the town cemetery, where citizens held a minute of silence in respect for the dead. Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) representative Faysal Sarıyıldız and the general co-chair of the healthcare workers' union SES spoke at the funeral, denouncing the police massacre.

After the funeral, the crowd marched to the district governor's office to protest the killings.
