ŞIRNAK - Rebecca Harms, the co-chair of the Green European Free Alliance in the European Parliament, came to Cizre to investigate what happened during the nine days of curfew.
For nine days, Turkish security forces imposed a curfew on the Kurdish town of Cizre. Security forces opened fire indiscriminately on civilians and deprived hundreds of thousands of food, water, electricity and medical care. 23 died during the assault.
“We are aware that the government of Turkey provoked this war, created this environment of conflict and laid the ground for war” said Rebecca Harms, who has traveled to Cizre to observe conditions.
Rebecca said that the reason for this massacre, blockade and devastation is the election loss of the AKP.
“The images that I encountered here are just wrong. They are something made irresponsibly and they should stop immediately. The whole world was informed about what happened in Cizre. Assaults should be stopped right now,” she said.
Rebecca said that when she returns to her country, the first thing she will do is tell people about her observations.
“I met Selahattin Demirtaş and my old friend Leyla Zana in July. I got this result as a consequence of both meetings: the solution of this problem can be in the democratic and political arena. The European Parliament and many fractions made a call. The state and the PKK need to stop the fighting mutually.” she said.
“The European Parliament should pursue this situation juristically,” Rebecca said.
