SERÊKANIYÊ – The Women’s Asayiş (security forces) Center is continuing its work on women’s problems in the Rojava city of Serêkaniyê. The women have solved 100 of the 150 cases brought to them and stated that they have changed the perspective of society on women.

Women have been the pioneers of the Rojava revolution. The Women’s Asayiş has solved 100 cases since 2013 in the city of Serêkaniyê in Jazira Canton. Xalya Berkel, from the Women’s Asayiş, said that when the center first opened, nobody came for problems, but that after their efforts, people started to consult them.

Xalya said that everyone has witnessed the resistance of women after the Rojava revolution.

“The perspective of society on women and women’s organization changed owing to the Rojava revolution. Actually, women changed the perspective of society through their attitude. Society believes in us now. They bring their problems to us and they know that we can solve these problems completely,” she said. “The rate of women’s problems decreased compared to the past. The problems are mostly family issues and we try to solve these problems as soon as possible. We solved 100 problems and brought 25 cases to court, and the Women’s House solved 25 cases as well.”

Xalya said that the Women’s Asayiş works 24 hours nonstop. She stated that they reached this point owing to those who resisted in the Rojava revolution.

“We are carrying on our work unbendingly for the people who paid this price. Women are coming us both to talk about their problems and to have their problems solved. We are trying to do our best. We will protect our martyrs’ efforts. They gave their lives for a democratic society. We will follow in our martyrs’ footsteps,” Xalya said.
