MÊRDÎN - Women's rights activist Şehriban Altınışık, recently detained by police in the town of Nusaybin, Turkey, has been jailed. She has been hospitalized with a broken arm after two days in police custody.

Şehriban Altınışık is a women's rights activist with the Congress of Free Women (KJA). Police stopped her and an individual named Yaşar Agdoğan two days ago in the largely Kurdish town of Nusaybin.

After being seen by the court, Şehriban has now been placed under arrest on charges of "membership in an illegal organizaton." Şehriban has been sent to the Mardin E-Type Prison, while Yaşar was released from detention.

It was recently learned that Şehriban was taken to the hospital with a broken arm after being tortured and insulted by police while under detention.
