12-year-old child detained in Erzurum

NEWS CENTER – A 12-year-old girl is among those swept up in raids on activists in several largely Kurdish districts, where more than 30 were arrested this morning.

Early this morning, Turkish police conduced house raids in the Serhat area of Northern Kurdistan (in Turkey).

In the Karayazı district of Erzurum province, police have detained a 12-year-old girl. At least 20 people active in the local Village Commission were detained in the district.

Police pistol-whipped and pointed weapons at children who reacted angrily to raids of their homes in the Kağızman district of Kars province. Local directors from the Demcratic Regions Party (DBP) were among those detained.
In Hakkari, two teenage children were among those detained. Police raided homes late last night.

One individual was also detained in a raid on a village (Akkis, or Çamaltı in Turkish) in the Tatvan district of Bitlis province.
