İSTANBUL - Rukhsana Aslam works as peace journalist in New Zealand. She is a journalist from Pakistan and her research center is peace journalism, media and conflict constitute her focus of research.
Rukhsana did her PHD on peace journalism at Auckland University of Technology in 2014. She works as senior researcher at Pasific Media Center now. We had an interview with her about the language of peace in Pakistan, New Zealand and Turkey. She emphasize that we should question the individuals not the system against the war language used in Turkey, first the individuals should change.
'Women are in all areas in Pakistan'
Rukhsana said, "There are two types of women journalists in Pakistan. One is old women, they usually work on magazinish. The others are young women who want to write on more serious articles such as social rights, political events. The media are shown very conservative in Pakistan. The women in Pakistan are like me. They are educated and strong. Women are in all areas of life."
'The people in New Zealand do not like America because they destroyed their nature'
Rukhsana said, " There is not culturel problems in New Zealand like in Pakistan. Women work in New Zealand. New Zealand is a peaceful country so we can not find any news for evening news. We mostly use animal's news for evening news. She also said, " The media has not been progressed very much but the news tells what is going on in the World. It gives the news about the Deash but not much. The power party in New Zealand is a nationalist party. The New Zealand people do not approve the decisions which are taken by the government. People think the government can not take a healthy decision because of their relationship with America. The Zew Zealand people do not like America. Many fish died after America made a nuclear test in the Pacific Ocean. They love their natüre.
'Neutrality creats savageness more than the violence'
The people in Pakistan do not like America but America is tring to buy Pakistan with their assistance. After the attacts on September 11, Bush said to the Prime Minister of Pakistan that you have to do whatever we want or we will delete Pakistan on the map so Pakistan can not take a decision with theirselves.
Rukhsana learned that the same thing was said to Silvan's people and she said, " I came from New Zealand, what can I said on this issue. The people in Turkey should say something on this issue. I oppose that in Pakistan and of course in Tukey too. Neutrality creats savageness more than the violence."
' We have to fight with our pens and articles'
Rukhsana said, " Let's do not talk about the system, just talk about individuals. That is more easy. When the individuals start to change, the system also change. One journalist does not call herself as peace journalist but she are doing it. Sometimes you get hurt when you see violence by the state. That is normal. We should be patient. We have to fight with our pens and articles."
