Movies, confronted with incest, at Women's Film Festival !

Last year, Flying Broom International Women's Film Festival, brought up sexual abuse in the family with ,film director , İlksen Başarır's film Carousel(Atlıkarınca) and also this year, it takes this tragedy out of the house with three films and opens it to discussion.


Incest is one of the most horrific attacks to fundamental human rights ,which are protected by international conventions. in recent years,one after another of films began to meet with audience, that put spokes to incest-with a more accurate description of sexual abuse and rape within the family- which is preserved sensitively in society's taboo cocoon. Movies give place to stories which are powerful enough to uncover truths.Thus secrets come  to light  .Which knows the power of cinema to gain awareness of social problems, Flying Broom this year at the festival is looking through some striking examples of neglect, abuse and violence, which are the results of gender inequality.


15th Flying Broom International Women's Film Festival will be in Ankara between 10 to 17 May.  It  consists of 8 films ‘’Crime Scene: Family’’ section three films  stand out about incest.


The first film is a documentary called '' Home''(Yuva). The film ,which was made based on a newspaper report, testifies the lives of men and women who have been exposed to harassment and rape by relatives.


Until recently  incest ,which could not  take  part even in a comprehensive researche, is the most hidden form of abuse at 'Family' union, which sanctify its presence.According to the data; more than half of the attackers are fathers and this  reveals the  size of the problem at the same time it whispers to us that we should look for the attackers within our close relatives. Researches show that  the number of the women, who die of cancer and traffic accidfents are less than the women, who victim of sexual abuse and rape in family.


Child brides, like domestic violence as well as gender-based many problems another film will be shown at festival is a short film "A Baby's Life" made in England.


Describing in a few minutes the tragedy of 9-year-old daughter of a nuclear family, who seemingly living like a princess, Director , take attention that domestic crimes do not happen in only  po revealing  the truth behind the happy family's table or families,they  can be a problem of every people.


Films , which are revealing  the truth behind the happy family's table and questioning the family ,etched in our minds with its sanctity, are not limitd with them.


There is another fascinating documentary at Flying Broom Women's Film Festival: " lemony coffee’’(Limonlu Kahve) Film gives extracts from the life of five women who have done sex work. The film explains in a traumatic background the abuse and rape that women exposed to   in their childhood. One of the women whispers the mean of the lemony coffee.


‘’ ’Crime Scene: Family’’: in the titled section ;also, a film will be shown  focusing on child brides violations of  rights and with real stories  attracting attention to this global problem.
