ANKARA – Women defending human rights held a sit-in for peace outside the Parliament in Turkey’s capital. The women called on the government to immediately start peace negotiations, spreading their white scarves on the ground in a gesture of protest.
As Turkish state forces continue assaulting towns and cities in Kurdistan, a group of women human rights defenders called on the Parliament to stop the deaths today.
“Stop the deaths; let guns be silent and peace speak,” said Şebnem Korur Fincancı, speaking on behalf of the group of human rights activists. The women spread their white muslin scarves, a traditional gesture of women calling for peace.
