ŞIRNEX – In Şırnak, the bodies of two youths slain on the night of December 4 remain on the ground under a layer of snow as state forces continue their attack on the neighborhood.

In the province of Şırnak, the Turkish state has maintained 24-hour curfews in the town of Cizre and Silopi, where state forces continue to kill residents on a daily basis. Meanwhile, in the provincial capital, an unannounced blockade continues. All roads to the town of Şırnak have been shut down as state forces have begun setting up positions in state-owned buildings in the Dicle, Bahçelievler, Yenimahalle and Yeşilyurt neighborhoods. Armored vehicles have been transferred to buildings such as schools, state hospitals and state-run medical clinics as sandbags are installed on the buildings’ windowsills and roofs.

On the night of December 4, snipers positioned on the roof of the provincial forestry department building killed two youths. Four days later, the youths’ bodies remain on the ground under a layer of snow. Şırnak residents’ efforts to retrieve the bodies have been fruitless, as snipers continue to open fire on any citizens in the area.

The people of Şırnak are currently holding a vigil in the Dicle neighborhood for the right to retrieve the bodies. Life has ground to a halt in the town. Shop shutters are closed, vehicles are not running and students are boycotting school until the bodies are retrieved.
