HDP politician Rukiye Demir, 8 others detained

ISTANBUL – Police have raided the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) district building in Beyoğlu, Istanbul. Nine people, including HDP district co-chair Rukiye Demir, have been detained.
Early this morning, a large contingent of police and special operations teams executed a raid on the HDP building in the downtown Beyoğlu district of Istanbul. Police broke down the building’s doors and tore up posters that included photographs of PKK (Kurdistan Workers’ Party) leader Abdullah Öcalan. The raid ended with the detention of nine people, including the district’s co-chair, Rukiye Demir.
As many individuals hearing of the raid headed to the building, the HDP’s Istanbul co-chair Cesim Soylu condemned the attack.
