COLEMÊRG – In the town of Yüksekova, Turkish police have attacked women attempting to march in condemnation of the murder of three Kurdish women in Paris.
On January 9, 2013, three Kurdish women politicians—Sakine Cansız, Fidan Doğan and Leyla Şaylemez—were murdered in the heart of Paris. In the district of Yüksekova, members of the women’s group KJA (Congress of Free Women) attempted to march to condemn the killing on its third anniversary.
Police attacked the gathering outside the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) building before the march could begin, using tear gas and rubber bullets. Tension is high across the district.
