ŞIRNEX – State officials in the town of Silopi, Turkey have secretly buried the bodies of eight people killed in state attacks on the towns, depriving their families of a funeral.

In the town of Silopi, the state continues intensive ongoing attacks on the town. The Turkish state has now secretly buried eight individuals killed on a range of dates in previous state attacks—Seyfettin Sidar, İbrahim Bilgiç Yusuf Yağcı, İsmail Yevşan, Necati Öden, Ayşe Buruntekin and Aydın and Mehmet Mete.

The families were not notified of the burials, which took place in the Şehitlik Cemetery after state officials had previously kidnapped the bodies from the morgue at the state hospital in the provincial capital of Şırnak, then transported them to a cold storage unit at the Habur border checkpoint in Silopi. The burials took place on the orders of the Silopi district governor.

Yusuf Sidar, the older brother of Seyfettin Sidar, condemned the mistreatment of the dead, calling it a demonstration of the Turkish state’s intolerance of Kurds. Yusuf said that the state notified the family of the burial only after it had taken place.

Abdullah Buruntekin, husband of Ayşe Buruntekin, reported that the family was notified that a burial was to take place, but before the family could get there, Ayşe had already been buried.
