ŞIRNEX – One week ago, 28 wounded people took refuge in a basement in the besieged town of Cizre. Since then, Turkish state forces have prevented ambulance access and held the house under artillery bombardment. Yesterday evening, a tank stopped ambulance headed for the building yet again.

For one week, tanks and armored vehicles have maintained a heavy assault on a house in Cizre where wounded residents of the town took refuge. The building is now collapsing under the assault.

Ambulances set out for the house last night for the third time this week, but despite official approval for the ambulances, state forces cut off them off. A tank positioned on Nusaybin Avenue that has been firing artillery at the house prevented the ambulances from entering. An armored vehicle escort took the ambulances to the police station.

Police interrogated the healthcare workers, asking questions like, “Who sent you?” and “Why do you want to go there?” The healthcare workers said that they had set out with the approval of the provincial governor and national ministries. After police seized the healthcare workers’ telephones for analysis, the group was sent back to the hospital.

Reportedly, dozens of armored vehicles have now surrounded the house.
