Police arrest, harass women students in Ankara

ANKARA – Police have arrested 16 students in Turkey’s capital of Ankara after students rejected a police ID checkpoint on the campus of Ankara University. Police have threatened and harassed women students arrested.
When police set up an ID checkpoint at Ankara University’s Cebeci campus, students rejected the procedure. Police arrested 11 students, among them four women, then blockaded the campus and arrested five more.
One of the women arrested said that police threatened her, saying, “See you this evening; you won’t see the spring.” Another of the women reported that police harassed her.
