JINHA
AMED - Jın News Agency (JINHA), the first women's news agency in the world, turns five today. We have reported the news with a slogan "We write without thinking about what men would say." for five years. We will continue to report the news with this slogan.
As Jın News Agency (JINHA), we began to broadcast in March 8, 2012 with a slogan "And we change the media language. The media will never be same after us." Our team consists of women only from our news director to the reporter, from the camerawomen to the photographer. We are determined to break up with the masculine gender of the media. The media creates a language in society. The language currently created is a sexist language. We have tried to change that. To the contrary of the masculine and militarist language that is used to direct the media's mass psychology, we want the female perspective that is not superficial but tackles the deep-rooted causes of a problem to become common place in the media. Our publication policies are founded on 'how to reach the solution of a problem from its very essence. Sometimes, we have difficulty, but we will continue to report the news uncompromising.
We have broadcasted in Kurdish, Turkish and English since our agency founded. Today, we began broadcasting in the Kurdish dialect of Sorani.
The newspapers and TVs which didn't used our news the first year, began to give us as reference. After Rojava revolution was declared, first our reporter went to there. And JINHA first reported to the world that the Rojava revolution is a women's revolution. Although JINHA was just four-month-old, we went to Syria as war correspondents and we reported the news from there. Our reporter also reported the news in Aleppo/IRAQ despite our reporters were targeted there.
Only JINHA had reporters in Shengal when gangs attacked there. Meanwhile, we have branches in Kobanê and Qamişlo. We have also reporters in the cities of Rojava. We still have reporters in Shengal and we have a branch in Sulaymaniyah. Our centre is in Diyarbakır and we have branches in Ankara, İstanbul and Van. And we have reporters all around Turkey.
We have many difficulties. Our reporter Vildan Atmaca was arrested in Van, just because she posted Arîn Mîrkan's picture. Our Diyarbakır reporter, Beritan Canözer was covering a protest against the curfews when she was arrested. She was found suspect because "she was excited". Our Van reporter, Rojda Oğuz was arrested just after Vildan was released. Our reporters went inside Cizre, just before the curfew was declared. They stayed in Cizre to report the news from the neighborhoods of Cizre. Our friends were faced to be shot many times. Meanwhile, we were in Silvan, Sur, Silopi, Nusaybin and Derik during the curfews.
We have reported the news with women's perspective for four years. We will continue to report the news with women's perpective.
We turn five today. We have reported the news with same slogan, "And we write… We write without thinking about what men would say."
