SHENGAL - An Êzidî woman named Leyla Mehlo Hemzo was abducted and sold as slave by Daesh gangs's members and they killed her husband in front of her eyes. Her expression is enough to see the inhumane treatments of Daesh gangs' members. L.M.H. said that the children, who were abducted by Daesh, have suffered from sexual abuse and she stated that she couldn't express the atrocity of gangs with words.
Êzidî women suffered the greatest pain in the Daesh attacts on Shengal on Agust 2, 2014 without a doubt. Thousands of Êzidî were abducted, sold as slave and killed by Daesh gangs. Êzidî people have lived with their faith and independent sociality for thousands of years. They have standed firm despite the attacks. The People's Defence Force (HPG) and YJA STAR forces beat off the inhumane attacks for the first time. Êzidî people turned their face to mountains during the attacks without leaving their faith and hope of new life. Êzidî people have built a new life on Shengal Mountains while they are waiting for the rescue of women abducted. As some women have escaped with their efforts, some of them have been recued by the YPG/YPJ fighters. One of these women is an Êzidî woman named Leyla Mehlo Hemzo.
Men were executed by firing squad
25 year-old Leyla is from the Til Ezir village of Shengal. She is married and she has three children. Leyla and her family tried to escape when Daesh attacked Shengal. However, they failed to escape. Daesh captured them in a village and sold them as slave. Leyla told us how she was captured and what she experienced. "Daesh attacked our village suddenly. We escaped by walking to the Şeraa village. Daesh captured us when we arrived to Şeraa. They captured 50 women and 20 men. They executed the men by firing squad. They took us to another place. First, they took us to Kiran and then to Til Azir. They took us to Baac, Shengal and Musul. They behaved badly to us. They took us to Til Afer after stayed in Musul 15 days. We stayed in Til Afer nearly two months. Then they took us to Rakka. There were other captive women there.
"Gangs trained the boys with their mentality and sold the girls as slave. One of their emirs named Nur (nom de guerre Ebu Ubeyd) came and took me. He tortured me for one year. I was raped, I was left thirsty and hungry and I was exposed to violence. This emir was married. He had two wives. His wives were very bad people. He trained them. They told me that we aren't Muslims and we deserve more. They didn't let us to go out even they didn't let us to look outside from windows. He sold me a Saudi man one year later. Saudi man lived in Humus so he took me to Humus. They stayed under ground. He also raped me.
"Mothers were killed in front of their children's eyes and the children were killed in front of their mothers' eyes. They killed 15 men in front of us. A 16-year-old girl was raped by gangs' members. She commited suicide. I also tried to commit suicide many times. However, they saved me to sell and earn more money. There were many children where we stayed. Their ages were between 9, 10, 12 and 15. They trained these children. The children wanted to escape but they couldn't. A 10-year-old girl named Rimaz from the Solak village was with me. They forced her to marry. Everyday one of gangs' member sexually abused her. She was a child. She was scared. She pleaded with me for not leave her. However, I couldn't do anything. They told us "We bought you cheap but we will sell you expensive."
"One day, Saudi man went out and left the door opened. I escaped. I took refugee in a village of Minbic. An Arab family hid me in their home and they reported to the YPG and YPJ. The friends came and took me from there. I am with heval (friends) for days. I am obliged to them. Thanks to them."
