ŞIRNEX – State forces have destroyed the memories of children the most in Şırnak. “We just want peace even if we don’t have bread to eat.” said Şırnak children with their big hearts despite their memories have been destroyed with tanks and mortar.

We must look the genocidal attacks and displacement policies that have been imposed in Kurdistan by the government, from the eyes of children. Their huge dream world has been crashed by the sound of mortar fire. Bullets fell into the games they play. They have to look the graffiti, “It’s the turn of JÖH in education.” on their school wall where they learned how to write and read. The children are playing games in the shade of the tents as if they response the government’s massacre policies and the destructiveness of war. As their memories are under ruin and debris, the children reacted to their playgrounds have been burned and demolished by saying, “We left our playgrounds. Police didn’t allow us to take our toys and animals we we fed in the streets.”

The children are watching their playgrounds have been demolished beyond 10 km. of Şırnak. One of them is Nesrin Külter. She said, “We just want peace even if we don’t have bread to eat.” Zelal is another child from Şırnak. She, meanwhile, said, “I left the streets that I played games. I don’t understand why the state does like that. I talk to my friends everyday. I miss them very much.”

“We can find playgrounds everwhere, however, no where is like Şırnak.” said Bişeng Bartan and continued to talk, “I left Şırnak because there is war in Şırnak. We put up a tent here. We hear the sound of bombs everyday. They destroyed our playgrounds. I want to return to Şırnak. I want to gather in the streets with my friends and relatives. Erdoğan took our playgrounds from us.”

Another child named Pelda said, “Police didn’t allow me to take my cat. There is war in Şırnak. We took some of stuff and left there. I looked for my cat but I couldn’t find her. I had to leave her there. Police didn’t allow me to take my friend. I cried everyday for my cat. She is getting hungry there. My cat will die due to Erdoğan. That’s enough. I want to end this war.”

Zelal said, “I had to leave our city due to Erdoğan. We came here. We hear the sound of bombs from here. I am scared when I hear the sound of bombs.”
