Photos of the destruction in historical Sur district

AMED – “Curfew” has continued in the Sur district of Diyarbakır for five months. The photos, which were taken in thousands of years of historical district, show the dimensions of the destruction and attacks on the people’s life spaces.
24-hour curfew had been declared in the Cevatpaşa, Fatihpaşa, Dabanoğlu, Hasırlı, Cemal Yılmaz and Savaş neighborhoods and Gazi Avenue of Diyarbakır’s Sur district on December 2, 2015. The curfew had been lifted in Gazi Avenue and four streets of Cevat Paşa and Dabanoğlu neighborhood on March 13,2016 and it had been lifted in the Buzcular , Buzcular 1, Eski Yoğurt Pazarı and Çiftehan streets of Savaş neighborhood; Orta Karataş street and from Arman street to Bıyıklı Mehmet Paşa street of Dabanoğlu neighborhood on March 17, 2016.
“Curfew” hasn’t been lifted in some part of the district despite the Department of the Interior announced that "Operation was ended" in the town at the beginning of the month of March. The destruction has continued in the town. As the trucks threw the debris in the town to the Tigris River, the people's bodies' parts were found in the debris.
The destruction of the district can be seen in the photos. Historical and cultural buildings have been destroyed and the homes of the people have been brought down in ruins.
