MÊRDÎN - Women's Policy Department of the Mardin Metropolitan Municipality is going to found "Violence hotline". The Head of Department Mekiye Güzel said, "We should work more if women subjected to violence don't apply us."
Founded in January 2015 the Women's Policy Department of the Mardin Metropolitan Municipality has continued their works under the units of "Violence against women", "Improve women's economy" and "Education and research of women". The department is going to found "Violence hotline". The head of the Women's Policy Department Mekiye Güzel reported the works of "Violence hotline". Mekiye said that the most women and children are affected by war. Mekiye said, "More than 50,000 people have immigrated to Mardin from Nusaybin. Before the ban, women applied to us for different reasons; however the reasons have been changed after the ban declared. Women have applied us and say, "We have been dispossessed, our home has been demolished." Before, women applied us for violence against them. But, they say that they will be killed if they don't leave their homes. We must support the women by working more and women can feel that they aren't alone with our support.
"We should take action right now. We should carry out works in order to stop the violence agains women. Many women have applied to us until now. According to our data, more than 160 women have applied to us. However, we cannot determine the number of women those who are subjected to violence. Therefore, we are going to found "Violence hotline" for women to reach us easy.
"Our female friends should know that all of us are subjected to violence. They aren't alone. They should apply to us if they are subjected to violence. For example, a neighbor can call us and report us "My neighbor is subjected to violence. We can overcome our problems if we come together and be in solidarity with each other."
