Çilem Doğan: I became stronger with women's letters

ADANA - Çilem Doğan had been jailed for killing her husband, who repeatedly beat her, by using her right of self-defense. She was released on bail several days ago. Çilem said that she became stronger with women's letters in prison. Çilem said, "I want to state that I will be with prisoner women and women who are outside. Long live the struggle of women. Long live women's solidarity."

Çilem Doğan, who killed her husband inflicting violence on her by using her right of self-defense, has been released after stayed in prison about one year. Çilem keeps the letters which were sent her when she was in prison. Çilem stated that she became stronger with the words of women for one year.

"Every line of women gave me strength." said Çilem and she stated that she will keep women's letters with her. She said, "I felt lonely and helpless when I was taken into prison. I was moved to tears when I got the first letter. The letter made me very happy. I replied some of letters; however, the number of letters increased and I couldn't reply all of them. Particularly, I liked women's letter. Feeling women's support made me very happy.

"I got letters from all women's organizations. I got letters from female political prisoners and other female prisoners. The letters became a part of me. I became happy when I got the letter of the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) co-chair Figen Yüksekdağ, Feeling her support was really touched me. I want to thank to in particular Figen Yüksekdağ and all women those who never left me alone by sending letters. I want to state that I will be with prisoner women and women who are outside. Long live the struggle of women. Long live women's solidarity."
