'We are fighting for a democratic solution'

ANKARA - Emek Party (Labor Party) General Vice President Şükran Doğan reacted to the ongoing forest fires and evacuation of villages began within the scope of operations launched in Lice and Cudi by state forces. Şükran stated that it is not difficult to predict what is going on in Lice after seeing what happened in places curfew declared like Cizre, Nusaybin and Yüksekova. Şükran emphasized the importance of struggle of democratic solution.

As forest fires broke out in the Lice district of Diyarbakır as result of clashes and bombardment launched by dispatched state forces in banned regions with the curfew declared in the villages, military headquarters have been build in the evacuated villages. Meanwhile, forest fires erupted in the Cudi Mountain of Şırnak, where has resisted against the state's genocidal attacks for more than 100 days, continue to grow by spreading to villages around the region. While 75 human shields, who headed out to Lice due to ongoing operations, were detained, the people those who want to extinguish the fire have been denied to access the region by state forces.

Emek Party (Labor Party) General Vice President Şükran Doğan made evaluations about ongoing situation to JINHA. She underlined that the situation is worse than 1990s. She said, "On one hand, the nature is being destroyed, on the other hand, the homes of people those who live in forest and villages and have a risk of death, have been demolished." Şükran stated that it is not difficult to predict what is going on in Lice after seeing what happened in places curfew declared like Cizre, Nusaybin and Yüksekova.

Şükran pointed out that they cannot salve the wounds of the people those who have faced the state's atrocity that began with declaration of curfews in Kurdistan. She stated that they have continued their struggle on the basis of equal rights for the Kurdish issue in the context of their own organizations. Şükran said, "Our wish is first to guarantee everyone's right to life and then ensure peace. We are fighting as best as we can. Meanwhile, we, as party, continue to make an effort to form a democratic front and solve the Kurdish issue that is main problem of the country, on basis of equal rights and democratic way."
