AMED- After the declaration of self-governments in Kurdistan, the state launched attacks on people and killed hundreds of people. Because of that, a lot of damages happened on women and children. Sociologist and Children Development specialist women from Ekin Ceren Women's Solidarity Center told us their two-week study in one of damaged town İdil.
In Kurdistan bypassed of the self-governments, the state launched attacks on hundreds of people and many of them were burned alive, and hundreds were injured. In these areas, especially women and children were targeted. After the attacks carried out, people have serious psychological damages. From this, women and children were mostly affected. One of these towns was İdil district of Şırnax. The sociologist Demgül Atahan and children development specialist Gûlan Yaklav from Ekin Ceren Women's Solidarity Center carried out study to repair the damages in İdil.
Demgül gave some information about their study: "We came here to support the people who experienced traumas not only Idil but also in Kurdistan. In the first women were scared when we tried to talk to them. When they learned that we came from Diyarbakır, they become calm. The reason was that they were affected to what happened in Sûr which happened to them too. Then, our meetings began to pass better."
Demgül noted that they reported to İdil Police station about their study. However, the police always tried to prevent their study.
Demgül said: "Women, who left their homes, were feeling guilt for not stay in clash areas. They said "Our children fought for us but we left them there." Demgül said that the people have continued to return to their homes. One neighborhood has been completely demolished and several homes have been destroyed in other neighborhoods. Especially all buildings of the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) and the Democratic Regions Party (DBP) have been fallen down. Women couldn't take their special staff from their homes."
Demgül stated that there are two sociologists and one is carrying out the study in Cizre while another in İdil. Demgül said, "A friend, who came from Cizre, has psychological problems of language and what happened in Cizre. Therefore, she was insufficient. Women from Turkey were also with us when we came to this area. We carried out studies together. Another problem was the prevention of aids. For example, a truck came from Rojava; however, it hardly entered to Idil. The state is aware of its destruction and massacres, so it wanted aids from the DBP and the HDP to be given to district Governor."
Demgül continued to talk by saying: "Women manage to overcome everything despite all difficulties. We'll continue to live in our lands. No one can take us out from our lands. I'm calling on all sociologists and psychologists from Turkey; we must unite against what happen to us. Idil was left alone. You haven't done anything until now. We must support women here."
Gulan Yaklava, meanwhile, said that the government carries out policies on women and children. She said, "Children use each stick as weapon. Children always are talking about the war. They need serious psychosocial support."
