Men's violence also affects children

NEWS CENTER- Domestic men's violence against women has directly affected children. Another affect on children is to witness this violence. The early intervention is crucial in terms of deletion of the negative impression on child's life caused by violence.

Mor Çatı Kadın Sığınağı Vakfı (Purple Roof Women's Shelter Foundation) noted that there is a strong relationship between violence against women and children. If there is a domestic violence in a home, mostly likely, the children in this home are subjected to violence, too. According to a research carried out in the USA, %50 of men those who use violence against their wives, in the meanwhile, use violence against their children.

Mor Çatı Kadın Sığınağı Vakfı (Purple Roof Women's Shelter Foundation) explains how a child is affected from domestic violence as follows: "Children are affected directly from domestic violence physically by being injured. Man commit violence can use violence against child in order to damage child's mother emotionally and force her to do what he wants. Meanwhile, the man can hurt the child accidentally or intentionally while attacking the child's mother. Older children can be hurt while they try to end the violence between mother-father."

Another affect on children is to witness this violence. Many mothers try to hide the violence against them from their children; however, %80- 90 children are aware of the situation. Mor Çatı (Purple Roof) said, "They hear the scream even if they don't see what is going on. They can also see the wounds on the body. Children are affected from domectic violence. The school-age children can have various psychological problems such as depression, fear, anxiety. They also can show problematic behavior against their peers such as using violence against them.
