ISTANBUL - Spanish journalist Lucia Muñoz came to Turkey to do research after the coup attempt. She said that there is an uncertain and hazy mood in Turkey. Lucia also talked about the situation of journalists in Turkey and said, "They abuse human rights by arresting journalists."
As world press has turned their attention to Turkey following the coup attempt, many journalists came to Turkey to see everything on site. Spanish Feminist Journalist Lucia Muñoz is one of these journalists. Lucia told JINHA her a week experience in Turkey.
Lucia said that there is an uncertain and hazy mood in Turkey; "I have come to Turkey for the first time. But I always follow the news from Turkey. There was a certain tension; however, people's concerns have increased following declaration of state of emergency.
"There are profiles of women from many different cultures in Turkey. Women are more concerned about ongoing stuation; women don't want to live in a war and stressful environment. And, I also can say that: Turkey, like many countries, should make a great effort for gender equality. Sometimes, I used camera while I worked and that's not normal in Turkey. Meanwhile, they call every person, who use camera, as "Cameraman" even if you are a woman. I can say that as an all-women news agency JINHA is doing a very precious job."
Lucia also talked about arrested journalists in Turkey by saying, "According to international reports, there are most imprisoned journalists in Turkey. They abuse human rights by arresting journalists because obtaining and publishing of information are human rights. Press should be free for a real democracy."
