ISTANBUL – People protested arrest of writer Aslı Erdoğan outside of Istanbul Courthouse by making a press statement.

Aslı Erdoğan has been sent to jail for being Özgür Gündem Publication Advisory Board by court decision. Friends of Aslı Erdoğan made a press statement outside of Istanbul Courthouse to protest the decision. Özgür Gündem stuff and journalists, the Republican's People Party (CHP) Istanbul MP Sezgin Tanrıkulu and the daily’s readers joined the protest.

Sezgin stated that Aslı Erdoğan just wrote nothing more and jailed her is a shame for Turkey.

Aslı Erdoğan’s mother Mine Aydoğdu said, “My daughter is innocent, release my daughter.” Meanwhile, one of the Özgür Gündem daily editors Bayram Balcı spoke in behalf of the daily and said, “Stuff of Özgür Gündem know very well what prisons mean. We also know how to take our colleagues out the prisons. Aslı Erdoğan should be released.”

Journalists, intellectuals, writers, cartoonists and academics will gather in front of Özgür Gündem office today at 1 p.m. to protest the arrest of Aslı Erdoğan.
