SGDF members begin hunger strike

İSTANBUL -The Federation of Socialist Youth Associations (SGDF) members have begun a hunger strike to protest the unlawful arrests against opponents under the excuse of State of Emergency. The members pointed out that the people, who wounded in Suruç massacre, were detained.
State of Emergency was declared in Turkey on July 20, after the declaration people have begun to be detained and arrested. 11 people, including six members of the Federation of Socialist Youth Associations (SGDF) were detained during police raid on August 25. They haven't been allowed to see their lawyers for five days. The SGDF members have begun a hunger strike to protest the ongoing applications. The members emphasize they will continue the hunger strike until their friends are sent to the prosecution.
One of the SGDF members Havva Cuştan underlined that the stage of emergency was declared against opponents. Havva stated that women have been affected from the state of emergency twice. Havva reacted to arbitrary detention and arrests. She said, “We’ll resist against male-dominant mentality and state of emergency and we’ll continue the hunger strike until our friends are sent to the prosecution.”
Another member Ceren Çoban reminded that the war has been reactivated after Suruç Massacre. Ceren said the state of emergency is only one excuse for massacre. Ceren expressed that the government is a government that has turned into ISIS. Ceren said, “We call for support from all revolutionary, democratic, socialist people to our hunger strike.”
