AMED – Kayapınar Municipaliy Council Member Suzan İşbilen evaluated the targeting women’s centers of the municipalities held by DBP. “The AKP is targeting women’s centers in order to eliminate women’s struggle. We never do politics in rooms and buildings of institutions, we will be among the people and we will never bow down against slavery,” said Suzan.

The most important feature of the municipalities governed by the Democratic Regions Party (DBP) is all these municipalities have women’s centers and co-mayor system. The first step of trustees appointed to 24 municipalities governed by the DBP (Democratic Regions Party) on September 11 is to prevent women’s works. The documents and computers of the Cizre Women’s Policy Department were seized following the appointment of the trustee to the Cizre Municipality. Members of the Sitiya Zin Women’s Counseling Center affiliated to Women’s Policy Department cannot carry out their works due to lack of the documents.

As Meya Women’s Center affiliated to Silvan Municipaliy has been deactivated, police raided the center’s office yesterday. The lock of office was changed by police after searching the office. The Head of Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality Women's Policy Department (First example in Turkey) Yüksel Aslan Acer has been held under detention for 12 days. The attacks towards to the women’s centers have violated the principle of confidentiality of women and children. Women’s informations are being held in police stations.

Kayapınar Municipaliy Council Member Suzan İşbilen evaluated the attacks against women and said, “The AKP cannot do anything by closing women’s institutions.” Suzan emphasized that the seizure of documents of women’s institutions was dangerous for women and the government would be taken responsible if something happened to the women. Suzan said, “The attacks on women’s centers are related to the attitude of the AKP against women. They want to put women in homes and isolate women from the society. As DBP, we have objective that make women socializing and organizing in order to remove the thousands of years of exploitation over themselves. A free and organized woman never accepts a monist mindset like the AKP has. The AKP see an organized woman as danger to their system, that’s why their target is to ignore our will by appointing trustees. The great success of the Kurdish freedom movement has been done by women. The AKP aims at women’s system in order to eliminate women’s struggle.

“The AKP may shut down the women’s institutions; however, it doesn’t mean they can elimate women’s struggle. The AKP should understand very well that they cannot annihilate the Kurds and women will never bow down against them. We will never take a step back.”
