WAN – The trustee appointment to Erciş Municipality was protested by issuing a press statement. People said they would never recognize the trustee.

Trustees were appointed, based on a statutory decree, to 24 municipalities governed by the Democratic Regions Party (DBP) on September 11. One of these municipalities is Erciş Municipality in Van. The Erciş Municipality employees issued a press statement in front of the office of the DBP Erciş. The DBP and HDP (Peoples’ Democratic Party) District organizations, the deputy co-mayor Güler Avcı, members of municipal council, employees of the municipality and many citizens attended the statement. The DBP member of board Tuncay Taştan read the statement. Tuncay said that the appointment of trustee is intolerance against the will of the Kurdish people and he said they would never recognize the trustees.

Tuncay said, “Trustees were appointed to municipalities elected by the people on the eve of the feast. Our people don’t accept this unlawfulness. Many of our people and members of DBP have been detained. We want our friends to be released immediately. We also condemn the arrest of Erciş Municipality co-mayor, members of municipal council and our party administrators, who have been held under arrest for more than one year and we demand immediately release all those arrested.”
