International Conference on Gender and Post-Genocide in Yerevan

YEREVAN - International Conference on Gender and Post-Genocide was held in Armenia’s capital Yerevan. The genocide against Êzîdî people carried out by ISIS and genocidal war carried out against the Kurds by the AKP left their marks in the conference. Tebessüm Yılmaz from academics told of Ekin Wan in the conference. The participants decided to work against the genocide carried out against the Kurds.

A three-day international conference, “After Genocide: From Trauma to Rebirth, a Gendered Perspective” that was held in Yerevan, was ended last night. The genocide against Armenian, Kurds, and Jews and in Africa was discussed with women’s perspective in the conference, which was organized by Women in War (France). As mostly academics participated in the conference, researchers and activists from Armenia, Kurdistan, Turkey, Europe, USA and Africa also participated in the conference.

Not only past genocide but also the present genocides were discussed in the conference. Participants discussed the genocide against Êzîdî people carried out by ISIS and genocidal war carried out against the Kurds by the AKP and described the war of the AKP as genocide. Sebastian Maise from Grand Valley State University in the US give a presentation titled, “74th edict against Êzidîs: continuation of a century of genocide”. Sareta Ashraf, a researcher from the US, gave a presentation titled, “Nowadays Genocide Issue”. A Êzidî woman Roza Said from Duhok told of her interviews with Êzidî women rescued from ISIS in the conference.

The total war against the Kurds in Bakur carried out by the AKP was also discussed in the conference. Meral Çiçek from the Kurdish Women's Relation Office (REPAK) gave a presentation titled, “Turkey’s ongoing genocide against the Kurds”.

Tebessüm Yılmaz from the Academics for Peace gave a presentation titled, “The tortured bodies, sexual violence and Homo Sacer” and she talked about Ekin Wan, whose body was tortured and put on display by Turkish soldiers.

At the end of the conference, the war has been carried out against the Kurds by the AKP described as genocide. The participants, organizers of the conference and academics decided to work in order to stop the genocide against the Kurds carried out by the AKP.
