Filiz: The world’s women should stand up for co-mayors

ISTANBUL – The Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) MP Filiz Kerestecioğlu underlined that appointment of trustees to the municipalities held by the DBP was a blow against women’s achievements, “The world’s women should stand up for the system of co-mayors,” said Filiz.
Trustees were appointed, based on a statutory decree, to 24 municipalities governed by the Democratic Regions Party (DBP) on September 11. The appointed trustees’ first act was to prevent the women’s works. As documents of the Cizre Municipality’s women’s center have been confiscated. Members of Sitiya Zin Women's Counseling Center cannot carry out their works due to confiscated documents. Police raided the office of the Meya Women’s Center affiliated to Silvan Municipaliy and locked the door of the center. The Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) MP Filiz Kerestecioğlu pointed out that the confiscation of women’s documents is against the privacy policy and women’s lives put in jeopardy by this way.
Filiz said, “While we want to strengthen the local administrations and advocate that the people should stand up for their living quarters, another blow has been carried out on the pretext of attempted coup. The application is being carried out is a blow.”
Filiz noted that the system of co-mayors and women’s will have been tried to be annihilated by appointing trustees and she said, “The system of co-mayors have been practiced in many countries. The system has been practiced in Turkey by the DBP. Trustees are a blow against women’s achievements. Not only women in Kurdistan and municipalities trustees appointed but also women in Turkey and the world should rise against such applications for democracy in Turkey and also women’s freedom movement in the world. The world’s women should stand up for female co-mayors in municipalities governed by the DBP.”
