WAN – Elected women, who react to the trustee appointments, stated that they carried out works based on women, “We have made women’s will, which had been annihilated by masculine mindset, visible again. Women will raise the struggle against the attack on their will,” said the women.

Four municipalities of 24 municipalities governed by the DBP, which trustees have been appointed, are Edremit, İpekyolu, Erciş and Özalp municipalities in Van. Female co-mayors of these municipalities have carried out works based on women with the system of co-mayors, pointed out that they would continue to struggle against the attacks on women’s will.

Deputy Co-mayor of Edremit Municipality, Nurhayat Çelik, stated that the appointed trustees have no legal grounds and she said, “Our people are awake to local administrations cannot be governed by trustees and they don’t accept the trustees. The will coming with election can only go with election. We will not leave the municipalities which we gained by fighting with our tooth and nail. The local administrations are elected by will of people. We didn’t recognize the trustees and we will not. The TOMA (Intervention Vehicles to Social Events) and armored vehicles turned our municipalities into military posts. Can a municipality turned into military post serve the people? They locked the municipalities for nine days and the municipalities were made nonfunctional. The municipalities should be opened for people in order to meet their needs.”

Co-mayor of the İpekyolu Municipality, Beritan Tayan, meanwhile, said, “They had appointed investigators to our municipalities many times. The investigators had stayed in our municipalities for months. They appointed trustees in unlawful way because their investigators hadn’t found anything. We were launching a hunger strike when the trustees were appointed. Appointment the trustees on the day of meeting with Abdullah Öcalan isn’t a coincidence. They did that because they wanted to defuse the people. We will not keep silent against this unlawfulness. We will defend our people to the end.”
