MÊRDÎN- People’s will has been ignored by appointing trustees to municipality of Nusaybin, where all occupation policies were destroyed. The occupation has been limited in building of municipality with the continuation of municipality’s works. Nusaybin Municipality Co-mayor Sara Kaya attended the works carried out in neighborhoods in order to determinate the need of people whose homes have been damaged by saying ‘The building is occupied’. “The people elected us, only people can dismiss us. No power could tear us away from our people.

Nusaybin, where has been under siege for more than one year, was imposed a five-month curfew. Nusaybin Municipality has been taken from the people by appointing trustee on September 11 and the door of the municipality has been closed to the people. The works carried out in 15 neighborhoods since the curfew was lifted despite the trustee appointment have continued to be carried out in neighborhoods.

Co-mayors and municipal officials and employees have visited home by home and continued to carry out the works by saying, “Each home is the municipal building”. Nusaybin Municipality Co-mayor Sara Kaya said, “Trustee has been appointed to the municipal building. For us, every avenue, street, home is a municipality. Before, the people came to us, now we will go to them. We will stand up for the will of people.” Sara stated she didn’t recognize that decision and trustee was only the occupation of a building. Sara reminded the curfew imposed in Nusaybin for about five months and expressed that they carried out works by establishing commissions for people. Sara said, “As you know, the AKP seized our municipality. We have begun to visit families by creating 11 groups in order to carry out our planned works. For example, we are visiting this home now and this home is our municipality. Before, the people told us their problems by coming to the municipality. Today, we visit them to listen to their problems.

“They cannot break the people’s will and our will. We will continue to be with our people until they don’t want us. We got 80 percent of votes in the last election; however, the municipal building is not different then the courthouse or police station. There is no meaning of this building for us. We have governed this municipality for two and half years. We always were with our people. Our people can contact us whenever they want. We are still their co-mayors.”
Sara also said, “We have determined how many families come to Nusaybin and how many homes have been destroyed based on the people’s applications to us. We also take record for campaigns like sibling families. People are sad for trustee. They say: ‘They already blow down our homes. Our another home was our municipality, they destroyed it, too.”

Sara pointed out the attacks on women’s will by appointing the trustee to municipalities and said, “Trustees have been appointed to our 24 municipalities. The mayors of 14 municipalities were women. They ignore the labor and will of women with trustees; however, they cannot break women’s will. Everybody should stand up for the women’s will.”
