NEWS CENTER- Women around the world gathered in Bogota for the 16th Congress of the Women’s International Democratic Federation (WIDF). The women promised to continue their struggle.
The 16th Congress of the Women’s International Democratic Federation (WIDF) was held in Bogotá, capital of Colombia from September 14-18. The congress was held with the motto, “Women for peace against imperialism and capitalism”. “Communist Women” from Turkey attended the congress.
The congress began with the speech of the president of the federation Brazilian Marcia Campus. Marcia stated that the peace process between Colombia’s state and FARC also concerns the women and the imperialism is targeting all women around the world, for this reason, the members of the WIDF and all women are responsible in anti-imperialist struggle.
Over 300 delegations around the world attended the congress. The imperialist wars, the crisis of capitalism and their effects on women and the rights of female workers were discussed in the congress.
March in Bogota
A march was held in Bogota with the participation of hundreds of women during the congress. A banner was unfurled, the banner reads; “Women in Europe struggle for a life without oppression and exploitation against imperialism and capitalism.”
Along the march, the women shouted slogans in Spanish, Greek, Turkish and English.
At the end of the congress, new area committees and secretariat members were elected.
