MÊRDÎN – Special operation police raided the Bakırköy Neighborhood of Mardin’s Derik district and detained Gurbet Çiçek and tortured and sexually abused her daughter.

Female prisoners in Mardin E Type Prison have published newspaper named “Özgür Gündem Dungeon” in solidarity with Özgür Gündem daily, which has been shut down temporarily on charge of “making propaganda of an [illegal] organization”. The newspaper wrote that a child was sexually abused by police.

According to news published in the newspaper, special operation team raided the Bakırköy Neighborhood of Mardin’s Derik district three months ago and tortured Gurbet Çiçek and her four children. After being subjected to torture, Gurbet was sent to Mardin E Type Prison. Gurbet told the newspaper what she faced. Gurbet said, “They entered my home with anger. My oldest child is 17 years old and smallest one is 12 years old. They broke my son’s nose by beating him.”

Gurbet said they were subjected to insult and tortured until they were brought the Police Station. Gurbet said, “They always beat us there. They took us in different places and they tortured us. They threatened my small daughter by saying, “We’ll rape you if you don’t speak,” after taken off her clothes. She was scared. My daughter still suffers from trauma. She begins to cry whenever she remembers that day.

Gurbet also said she was sent to jail for “being a member of an [illegal] organization and police haven’t allowed her children to return their home.
