Saniye Ekti released

AMED – 76-year-old Saniye Ekti, who was taken into custody for rejecting the request of soldiers for water and food, has been released.
Soldiers launched operation in the rural areas of Diyarbakır’s Hazro district and went to Helhel village and asked water and food from Saniye Ekti (76); however, Saniye refused to give them water and food. Soldiers took her into custody for that. Saniye was released last night.
Saniye Ekti’s name appeared in the press regarding to her chat with Tahir Elçi after the statement of Diyarbakır Bar Assocation on November 28, 2015 in order to attract notice on damaged Four-legged Minaret due to the attacks of state forces in the Sur district of Diyarbakır. Saniye began to talk following the speech of Tahir Elçi and she demanded the blockage to be lifted and the attacks to be ended in Sur and she expressed that they wanted to live free in their lands. A few minutes later of her talk, a clash broke out in the street and Tahir Elçi was shot to death.
According to reports received, Saniye’s home in Sur was blown down under the name of “expropriation” for this reason, she moved to the Helhel village.
