The award ceremony for the Premio Persofone 2016, one of the most prestigious awards in Italy, was held in the Persephone Theatre recently. The theme of this year’s awards was “the relationship between theater, cinema, and literature”. Actress Serra Yılmaz won the Premio Persofone 2016 for best actress. "La Bastarda di Istanbul," adapted from Elif Şafak’s novel "The Bastard of Istanbul," won the award for best performance.

Serra Yılmaz attended the award ceremony to receive the award. Serra said: "I am against the term 'foreign authors.' Those who write for the theater write for the whole world. We need culture more than ever. Only culture can save us in this world that has lost its compassion.”
