AMED – The DBP Co-chair Sebahat Tuncel underlines that the torture against the wounded female guerrilla is an ideological attack. “The state is angry at political women, its anger to women, who struggle for freedom, is at its peak. Today, those who torture a wounded female guerrilla, tomorrow will do the same to a student, who goes to home, a woman, who gets off work or a woman, who take a walk,” said Sebahat and called all women to struggle.
Member of the YJA Star, Saime Avşin (nom de guerre Avaşin Gabar), was wounded in the Derecik (Rubarok) of Hakkari’s Şemdinli district and she was subjected to torture by soldiers. As the women’s reaction to the torture is growing, the DBP (Democratic Regions Party) Co-chair Sebahat Tuncel said they condemned the incident on behalf of the DBP Women’s Assembly and the DBP Headquarters. Sebahat said, “There is a rule of the war, too; however, this rule has been ignored by the Turkish state. They displayed the dead body of Ekin Wan and men took photographs and published these photographs. Then they did the same in Cizre. Sebahat reminded the sexist graffiti drew by JÖH (Gendarmerie Special Operation) –PÖH (Police Special Operations) and entered the people’s bedrooms.
‘Attack on women is ideological’
Sebahat stated they saw more clearly the attitudes against women in the last one and half year. Sebahat said, “We saw how sexist, nationalist, militarist attitudes against women are terrible. In this respect, women should stand strong and struggle against these. The state is angry at political women and its anger to women, who struggle for their people’s freedom and refuse the current situation, is at its peak. We can describe that as the reflection of the nation state. The attacks on women are ideological. They show politic attitudes in order to break the people’s will by displaying, harassing and raping women. The previous prime minister described women’s fertility as “patriotism”. There is a political argument that sees women as server of men, not a free person and not an equal person. You see this aspect of war in Kurdistan and see in the streets in the west. Women can be lynched in the streets just for their clothes.
“The attack on female guerrilla is not only against her, it is against all women. They tortured and insulted her in order to make satisfy their masculinity instead of treating her and sending her to the court. We don’t know what happened behind the video. Only short of the video is a shame for the humanity. All women should protest that. Today, those who tortured a wounded female guerrilla, tomorrow will do the same to a student, who goes to home, a woman, who gets off work or a woman, who take a walk.”
