Petition by lawyers against state of emergency

ISTANBUL – Lawyers, including United June Movement, Contemporary Jurists' Association (ÇHD) and Libertarian Legists Association (ÖHD) have launched a petition against unlawfulness of State of Emergency.
Lawyers released a joint press statement against the applications of State of Emergency in Bar Room of Istanbul Çağlayan Courthouse and announced that they launched a petition titled, “Platform of Law Organizations against State of Emergency”. The lawyers noted that the campaign will continue until 17 October and they will present the signatures to the TBMM (Grand National Assembly of Turkey). While the Association of Lawyers for Democracy member lawyer Yıldız İmrek announced the purpose of the platform, the Libertarian Legists Association Branch manager İlknur Alcan announced the declaration on the establishment of the platform. One of lawyers of the Contemporary Jurists' Association (ÇHD), Ebru Timtik read the text of the petition.
The demands of lawyers are as follows;
*Lifting the State of Emergency. The orders taken within scope of it should be canceled.
*30-day detention period should be lifted.
*The isolation upon prisons, limits on meetings with lawyers, listening of the interviews with prisoners should be ended.
*The trustee appointments to municipalities should be taken back. The will of people should be recognized.
* The attacks on democratic rights like freedom of thought and expression, right of organization, right to work and right to strike should be ended.
The law organizations, which support the campaign, are as follows;
United June Movement Lawyers, Contemporary Jurists' Group, Contemporary Jurists' Association Istanbul Branch; Lawyers for Democracy, Department of Law for People’s Houses, Left Manner in Law Association, Kartal Legists Association, Liberal Democratic Lawyers, Libertarian Jurists Association Istanbul Branch and Social Law.
