ARTVİN – General Vice President of the CHP (Republican People's Party), Zeynep Altıok stated the will of people have been seized by trustee appointments to municipalities governed by the DBP and she said the unlawfulness of trustees should be ended.
The CHP (Republican People's Party) General Vice President Zeynep Altıok criticized the dismissal of co-mayors of municipalities held by the DBP (Democratic Regions Party) and appointment of trustees to municipalities. Zeynep emphasized she couldn’t approve the dismissal of a politician elected by people. Zeynep said, “If national will is wanted, this is national will. Some of dismissal mayors received 70% of votes.
“If these people commit an offense, then they must be sued. The truth reveals in law.” Zeynep expressed that the will of millions of people have been seized and she stated the AKP does wrong. “Saying ‘elected politicians can be dismissed easily’ cause the same happens to them. Making grandiose statement can put them in difficult situation like before. They have to end this unlawfulness regulation in order to not say we are deceived and misled again. We don’t approve the trustees.”
Zeynep also talked about the impression on the freedom of thought and expression and she reminded that over 100 journalists are in prisons in Turkey. Zeynep said, “If the press isn’t free, none of us can be free. We cannot talk about democracy if there aren’t free citizens in a country. We cannot talk about fair justice and election. The freedom of the press is a prerequisite of democracy. Özgür Gündem was closed down, and now about 100 editors-in-chief on watch are tried. There are important intellectuals, writers, journalists among them. Aslı Erdoğan and Necmiye Alpay have still been in jail. We don’t approve this situation.”
