WAN – Women stated that the attacks on women while protesting the detention of Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality co-mayors are against all women. “We will continue to scare the AKP,” said the women.

Women react to the detention of the Free Women’s Congress (KJA) Spokesperson Ayla Akat and the violence used against women, in particular Imralı Delegation member Ceylan Barıyanık during the protests against the detention of Gültan Kışanak and Fırat Anlı, co-mayors of Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality, in front of the municipality building.

Gürpınar Municipality co-mayor Yıldız Çetin stated that the attacks are a clear indication of the state’s fear from women. Yıldız also said the AKP government seized the people’s gains municipalities and continued; “The total attacks are carried out against women’s will. We condemn the attacks on women, who protested the detention. The attacks were not only against Gültan Kışanak, Ayla Akat or Ceylan Bağrıyanık but also all women’s achievements.”

Council Member of Van Metropolitan Municipality Melek Şadal reminded that the controllers are in the municipalities for months and continued; “They attacked the people’s will when they didn’t find anything. These municipalities served the people. Our struggle will continue even if they detain all women. All of us are Gültan Kışanak.”

Member of KJA Behice Abi underlined that the AKP targets women and said, “They should be scared of women. We will continue to scare the power with our struggle. We, as women, continue to be in area and streets.”
