AMED – After police yesterday arrested DBP (Democratic Regions Party) general co-chair Sebahat Tuncel, her arrest period has been extended by 24 hours. Those being held with Sebahat have reported that she is resisting torture under arrest and has stated, “Whatever happens, we will continue the resistance; we will win.”
Yesterday, DBP (Democratic Regions Party) general co-chair Sebahat Tuncel joined a crowd heading to the Diyarbakır Courthouse to protest the arrest and detention of HDP (Peoples’ Democratic Party) general co-chairs and parliamentary representatives. Sebahat was arrested outside the courthouse. Now, the period of her arrest has been extended by another 24 hours.
An individual who shared a cell with Sebahat during the arrest period shared the following information. “We were put in the same room with Sebahat Tuncel, but we couldn’t see one another. She was constantly resisting the police who were oppressing her. Even at the moment of the most extreme repression, she shouted out that the other women should not be pat down in front of men and that this was harassment. After a lot of work, she got them to accept that the other women under arrest be searched separately. After some hours, her file was separated from hours and she was taken away. She turned and smiled and said, ‘They’ll probably imprison me. It was obvious that this moment would come, but they can’t scare us. Whatever happens, we will continue the resistance, comrade; we will win.’”
