ISTANBUL – Journalists Derya Okutan, Nadire Mater and İnan Kızılkaya were sued for participating in Editors-in-Chief on Watch of the closure daily Özgür Gündem. The trial has been adjourned until December 9.
İmprisoned Özgür Gündem Editor-in-Chief İnan Kızılkaya, journalists Derya Okutan and Nadire Mater were sued for participating in Editors-in-Chief on Watch of the closure daily Özgür Gündem. Today, the journalists’ trial was held at 22th High Criminal Court, Çağlayan Courthouse, Istanbul. İnan Kızılkaya, Derya Okutan and Nadire Mater are accused of “publishing publications of terrorist organizations” and “making propaganda of terrorist organizations”. The Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) MP Garo Paylan, members of Human Rights Association (İHD) many authors and journalists attended the trial. The trier of fact began to read the news published in the daily.
First of all, İnan began to talk and he said he couldn’t prepare the defense text due to lack of the materials in the prison by explaining the prison conditions. In the defense, İnan said, “All journalists went to Kandil to make interview until June 7. The news in question was written by all newspaper at that time. That news was published to inform the public. I don’t accept the accusations.” The trier of fact continued to read the news and asked İnan again what he thought about the news. İnan said;
“Now we need more the truth news.”
