AMED – The building of the Free Women’s Congress, one of the 370 associations shut down, has been sealed. “We don’t recognize this decision. We have fought to eliminate violence against women and state violence for years. Our resistance will continue,” said women by protesting the decision and shooting the slogan, “Jin jîyan azadî"(Women Life Freedom).
The Free Women’s Congress is one of the associations shut down within the scope of State of Emergency. Police have blockaded the KJA’s central building in Diyarbakır. The Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Diyarbakır MP Feleknas Uca and women from the KJA and DBP (Democratic Regions Party (DBP) gathered in front of the building and began a sit-in protest. While Feleknas commented on the situation as a dictatorship, women, meanwhile, said to the police, “We will not allow that, we are sitting here.”
Ayşe Gökkan made a statement on behalf of the women and described the closure of the association as, “Black sheep of Turkey”. Ayşe said, “We don’t recognize this decision. We have fought to eliminate violence against women and state violence for years. Our resistance will continue.”
Fatma Kaşan, member of the KJA, said, “This association is the expression of 30 years of Kurdish women's struggle. We will continue to resist. We didn’t take any permission from anyone and we come to these days by resisting. You cannot prevent the people’s freedom struggle.”
The door of the KJA has been sealed.
