NEWS CENTER- Turkish Interior Ministry has appointed trustees to the Mardin Metropolitan Municipality and Siirt Municipality.

Turkish Interior Ministry announced in a statement issued this morning that trustees have been appointed to the Mardin Metropolitan Municipality and Siirt Municipality.

The statement reads: "Mardin Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ahmet Türk and jailed mayor of Siirt Municipality, Tuncer Bakırhan, have been suspended from their duties with an Interior Ministry decision dated 16.11.2016. The Interior Ministry has assigned Mardin Governor Mustafa Yaman as Mardin Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Mayor, and Siirt Deputy Governor Dilşad Taşkın as Siirt Municipality Deputy Mayor.”

After the appointment of trustee, Mardin people and municipal employees gathered in front of the municipal building. While the people have continued to wait in front of the building, co-mayors Ahmet Türk and Februniye Akyol joined the people and issued a press statement. Ahmet Türk said, “We regard this appointment as a political genocide. In this process, the Kurdish people have carried out a liberal struggle for democracy in a county that makes towards a racist, nationalist and fascist dictatorship of one person. Those do not tolerate this, are implementing a policy to intimidate the Kurdish people. We don’t accept what is going on.” After the statement, the people shouted slogans, “Pressures cannot intimidate us” and “We will win by resisting”. The people are still waiting in front of the building.
