ISTANBUL – Peace Mothers’ sit-in protest, performed in front of Dolmabahçe Palace every week, was blocked this week by police.
Sit-in protest launched by Istanbul Peace Mothers by demanding freedom for the PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan and return to the Dolmabahçe Agreement has also been blocked this week on the ground “The governor didn’t allow”. The Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Istanbul MP Erdal Ataş and the HDP Istanbul Provincial Co-chair Doğan Erbaş participated in the protest in order to support the mothers; however, the protest didn’t take place due to the obstruction of police.
Güler Buğday, one of Peace Mothers, reacted to the obstruction of police and said, “We, as mothers, always demand peace and we have carried out our struggle for this for years. We are mothers and we demand peace, we don’t have tanks or weapons but we have a heart to demand peace.” The Peace Mothers dispersed without making a statement and repeating their peace demand.
