QAMIŞLO - Women have taken their part in building a democratic society following Rojava revolution and they put their signature under important successes in the field of law. Women have formed the first Women's Law in the world; there are many articles in the law such as equality of men and women, prohibition of polygamy and women's property rights.

As laws are formed according to male mentality in the world, Rojava women, who lead the revolution, put their signature under important successes in the field of law. They formed Women's Law in 2014. Şêrîn Îbrahîm from Justice Council made avaluations on the issue. She stated that laws have been formed according to male mentality in many countries in the world and even thought women have rights in the laws, these laws aren't put into practice.  Şêrîn noted that they came together with women in many cities for Women's Law. She said, "Women conveyed their problems and they offered suggestions on how the law should be. We created the women's law in consideration of these suggestions."

'Women's Law is a revolutionary step'

Şêrîn noted that Women's Law is a revolutionarystep and she said, "Some people say that there are deficiencies in the law; however, they will see how powerful it is if they look at the content. Visible changes can be observed following Women's Law. For example, women's property rights have been defended with this law. With this law we say 'Women and men have equal rights on property.' Now, women have carried out works about this issue. Besides, children can stay with their mothers until they turn 15 in case of divorce. One article was refused by Arab men; we talked to them and solved this problem."

'Women create a wide network of organizing'

Şêrîn said that women have taken their part in many fields of life. In the end, she said, "Women have great energy; they can organize the people around them with this energy. Rojava women have created a wide network of organizing in order to solve the problems in society. Women have Women's House, conciliation board, women's board, women's communes ad many women's organizations. And the co-chairs system is a good example to the world for equality. Women and men work together with this system. We'll empower our organizations and maintain our activities."

'There is equality in Women's Law'

Cizîr Canton's Justice Council member and lawyer Zozan Elî also made evaluations on Women's Law and she said, "Forming Women's Law at the end of 2014 was a big step. There are many articles in the law such as equality of men and women, prohibition of polygamy and women's property rights and many other issues in order to protect women's rights. Our construction works continue in Rojava. Women should participate in this new life more strongly. We have formed a model for new life in Rojava and this model is a hope for the whole world. Let's build new life together."
