EFRÎN – Women across the Efrîn and Cizîrê cantons of Rojava have been debating how to make the commune form active, as Rojava women's umbrella group Yekîtiya Star coordinates organizing meetings to escalate the activity of the commune form.

In the town of Cindirêsê, in Cizîrê Canton, commune representatives from eight neighborhoods gathered at the local Culture Center to discuss how to increase activity in the communes. Yekîtiya Star director Zozan Henan noted at the meeting that communes formed a way for women to increase their roles in society and protect themselves from patriarchy.

10 commune presidents met in the village of Kebaşîn, near Şêrawa in Efrîn Canton, for an organizing meeting. The women started out the meeting with a moment of silent respect to honor those who gave their lives for the revolution. The women moved to form an assembly of their ten communes.

Women also decided to re-organize 39 communes in the cities of Qamişlo and Dirbêspiyê, in Cizîrê Canton. Women of Qamişlo founded 34 communes in the city's neighborhoods. Dirbêspiyê women announced that they will be following their lead and working on founding new communes as well.
