AGIRÎ – Police violently arrested a woman who made a victory sign at an AKP rally in the province of Ağrı yesterday. This comes less than a week after a woman was arrested for the same gesture at an AKP rally in Batman.
The AKP rally in Ağrı, a Northern Kurdish province, was poorly attended. When a young woman entered the arena and made the victory sign, Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu's guards and the police swarmed on the women and took her under arrest. Journalists could not learn where the woman was taken.
This is not the first time a woman has been arrested for making the gesture. As President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's convoy was passing through Batman, another city in Northern Kurdistan, a woman was violently arrested for the same reason and held overnight.
