ANKARA – Human rights activists called for an end to rights violations against Turkey's 2200 child prisoners at a press conference in Ankara yesterday.

The initiative "Juvenile Prisons Must Be Banned" held a press conference yesterday at the İHD (Human Rights Association) headquarters in Ankara. They called attention to the ongoing right violations and ill treatment of 2200 child prisoners in Turkey and Northern Kurdistan.

IHD member Hüseyin Küçük said that of the 2200 children, 542 are convicted and 1658 on remand. The initiative has gathered 27,000 signatures in a signature campaign to be sent to the General Directorate of Prisons and Detention Houses.
