IZMIR – Roma held picnics and celebrations across Turkey yesterday for the holiday of Hıdırellez, as celebrations continued in various cities, including Izmir and Antep.

Roma are the main celebrants of the spring holiday of Hıdırellez, a night for gathering and making wishes. Citizens of the Aegean city of Izmir headed to the Izmir Fair to have picnics and celebrate the holiday. The celebrations continued with concerts and dance performances into the evening.

In the southern city of Antep, Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) candidates joined the Hıdırellez celebrations. Candidates Gülseren Kocaer, Mecit Bozkurt and Fatoş Çetinkaya attended along with local HDP directors Dilan Çetinkaya. Gülseren and Dilan met with women for a neighborhood meeting, where they discussed discrimination against Syrian women in the city.
